The Metro's

The Metro Championships are run over two days, the Crit was held on the first day at the fast Murrarie crit track.Luke,Nolsey,Cooky and Brady all traveled to Brisbane to compete.
Brady raced first in Elite B with the pace on from the start and with only 35mins and two laps it wasn't going to slow down. A few attacks went off the front but with such a fast open track they were never going to stay away. The pack was still all together when the bell rang for the last lap and it was on! With speeds between 50 and 60 kph, the rubbing of shoulders, the pushing and shoving and cyclists swearing like shearers the last lap was scary but exciting. With Brady being pushed out wide on the last corner he was behind the 8 ball but sprinted hard bringing them in and crossed the line in 3rd place with a Bronze medal.Matt Wall from Bundaberg showed a powerfull sprinting display winning the Gold.

Cooky and Luke were up next in the Masters B crit and with a huge field of 50 cyclists it was going to be hard to come home first.Cooky raced in the top 15 riders for the entire race waiting for any attacks and going with them when they went.Being Luke's first Masters B race he was happy to sit on the back of the pack for most of the race and slowly made his way through the peleton during the 30mins.Coming down to the sprint finish both riders finished strongly but didn't have the goods to bring home the Big Dollars for their hungry families waiting at home.
Nolsey raced the last crit of the day in the Masters C race.
With a great result 2nd place in his last race Nolsey had the confidence and the know how to stamp his authority on the peloton.Taking good strong turns at the front of the pack Nolsey looked the goods coming into the last lap.Perhaps doing a little too much during the race Nolsey didn't have the legs to bring it home but still finished well.

Metro Champs – Road Race. Mt Alford
Upon arrival at the tiny township of Mt Alford we were met with misty/foggy conditions which soon gave way to a glorious sun shiny day.
Brady was first cab off the rank with the Road Race starters with the 96km (4 course laps) Elite B Race. The Victor Broncos boys dominated the race working well to ensure one of their boys was first over the line. Brady was at the top end on each lap, proving he was there to mix it up and hold onto his SEQ Leaders Jersey. However on the final lap on the steepest hill climb a small rock hitched a ride which punched a hole in Brady’s front wheel, he was able to change his tyre from the spares vehicle and chase the bunch to maintain his spot. It came down to a bunch sprint with Brady finishing in 4th spot. He still holds out Victor Broncos rider Stephen Hendreck (winner on the day) in the SEQ point’s classification.

Master C contender Nolesy was at the top of his game on Sunday, showing the boys he’s full of surprises and has some serious ticker (and a little sprinting talent). Nolesy performed beautifully throughout his 2 lap race to come home in a spectacular photo finish to claim 3rd. This takes Nolesy to 2nd place in the SEQ point’s classification in his Master C Category. Must woke up with the goods, hey Nolesy??

Cookie and Luke were out to take some scalps in the Master B 3 lap race; again the race was fast and furious, with a serious crash which ended the hopes of 5 or 6 riders. Luke and Cookie held in the bunch throughout the hilly course. Cookie had made several attempts with other riders throughout the race but were always chased down. The tricky finish also claimed a few riders; in the last 1km a few races combined which made it very confusing for riders and spectators alike. Cookie breezed in 7th spot after miscalculating his finish and Luke also in the bunch.

Not a bad day at the office boys….
