IPSWICH OPEN

Ipswich Open
After his injury from the previous day’s accident Brady was ready to roll at the Ipswich Open the following day. A little stiff and sore he rode like a man possesed, taking turns and leading the way on the hot Synergy Park Circuit. The circuit was slightly changed with the finish on the eastern side up the rise. Brady powered through the 50 minutes and finished with brute force just missing 1st by mere cm’s. Brady was extremely happy with 2nd and was pleased as punch to get his new team strip on the podium. Good on ya!!

DALBY TRIATHLON

Dalby Triathlon 4th March. HOT HOT HOT

Kids
: All children involved received a finisher’s medal, lots of smiling faces at the end of their hard slog. Well done to all the kids who participated.

The Illustrious Business House Challenge is always a hard fought tussle and this year it was taken out by LRK Walkers Team of Daniel MacPherson, Paul Blinco & Geoff Morgan with The Baker Boys 2nd.

The Open mens division was taken out by Cameron Watt. Our local Triathlon hero Sam Beck finished an extremely tidy 5th overall to be the first Dalby boy home.
With some boys training for months and some other for mere weeks we were expecting all sorts of results but these boys were awesome with a display of pure natural athleticism, they showed everyone what they are made of. Simon Doyle took out his age group as well, top stuff. Other Dalby boys who completed the hot course were Eddie Moss, Haydn Stjernqvist and Jonathon Hawkes.

The Dalby girls also proved they were not to be out done by their male counterparts with Bron, Rachele and Clare braving the tough slog. The overall winner was Amanda Richards. Bron showed her experience and natural talent by coming home in an awesome 6th place overall and taking out her 35 – 39 age group. Good Work Bronnie!! Newbies Clare and Rach showed their team spirit by getting each other through the tough event. Clare finished 3rd in her 20 – 24 year age group and Rachele 3rd in her 30 – 34 age group. These girls will be back next year to kick some serious butt and improve on their 2007 mark.

The teams event is always one of pure entertainment and this year was no different. The mens winners were off to a blistering pace, young Jerome Studdy one of the first out of the pool – this kid is FAST! This made the job all the more easier for the super time trialist Luke Rowney and speed demon Dangerous Dave – these boys were unstoppable.
Good to see another local team come in second with “Summer Bo Tangles” Todd Summerville , Nolesy and Beau McEwan – great run Beau (he is only 13)!!

Our ladies were also super fast with some super fast times for the teams event.
1st home were the Dalby Diva’s Kate Paynter, Andrea Gormley and Kate Cobb
and not far behind were Ruth Johnston, Maryanne Gibbons and Angela Doyle (awesome Ang, did the 5km run in 19 mins) That’s fast.

Our new locals Tom Roger and his girlfriend Michelle certainly know how to fit in with a sublime 2 person effort taking out the mixed teams event, Michelle lead with an excellent swim and Tom powered home in the ride and run. 2nd place was taken out by the Dalby Dazzlers. Lead by Jacqui MacMaw, David Stephenson and brought home in a blistering finish by Bec Stephenson. (girlfriend of SPEEDO KING ANTHONY WALKER).

The school teams were well presented this year with Kingaroy High taking the honours and our local super stars in the making taking 2nd place. Lucy Walton (age 12) had an excellent swim (just pipping her Mum too), with 9 year old Cormack Ebbage slogging it out in the heat on his speed machine and young Tom Morrissey (also 12) flying home in the run. Well done guys.

Congratulations to all who participated and organised and helped out on the day.

DALBY CRIT

1 2 3 FOR THE DALBY BOYS

The 2nd annual Dalby Crit was held on March 3rd in sweltering conditions with the mercury nudging the 38 mark. Our Dalby boys used this to their advantage. Cookie, Damo, Luke and Nolesy sprang into action in the heat of the day in the Vet C category (30 minutes + 2 laps). The local boys blew the pack away with constant attacks and hard turns at the front of the bunch. The finish was a sea of Bikeline jersey’s filled with Dalby boys…Cookie was the runaway winner with Luke and Nolesy in a hard fought and ridiculously close 2nd and 3rd, with Damo finishing just behind them in the pack.
Elite C saw are resident Fresh boys Big Dan and Tom Roger take on the ‘big boys’ from around the south east. The pace was fast and the heat was on. The boys found it a bit tough but with some more training and some Bikeline jersey’s on their backs it might make all the difference.
Brady hit the Elite B from the get go, with the flash new team strip of Ord Minett on his back he was out to impress his new team mates and local supporters and that is just what he did. Hanging out in the first few throughout the race Brady was well in contention of the taking out the event until on the bell lap at the final turn a Brisbane rider’s pedal hit the tarmac and so did he closely followed by Brady and 2 other riders. The positioning was perfect!! After leaving half of his left butt cheek on the road Brady walked away relatively unscathed.
Congratulations and well done to all who rode, supported and organised!! Team Dalby can look forward to kicking some serious butt again next year.

HELL OF THE WEST

Hell of the West
SAM SAM THE TIME TRIAL MAN.

After 3 years of only a handful of Team Dalby Members competing, a large contingent hit Gundi to contest the Hell of the West half ironman triathlon 2km swim, 80km cycle, 20km run.

With members needing a 3.30am rise to calm nerves, eat and get numbered our individual Dalby star Sam Beck hit the water at 5am, closely followed by team members Simon Doyle, Darren Hoskin and Kate Paynter. Ex Dalby girl Chris Galinovic also making the long trek from Rocky for the half ironman and then at 5.15am The Don hit the water for an EPIC Hell of the West.

After 2 vomits in the McIntyre and some belated advice from the dietician, Sam emerged triumphantly from the water in 40 minutes, closely followed by Hosko, Kate and Simon.

GAME ON…. The bike leg began with a tailwind on the way out. All Dalby riders found the conditions to their liking recording 38-40km averages at the turn around. With the road surface more like the moon in some patches the going got tough on the way home. Some fast splits were recorded by the Dalby Diva’s Andrea Gooma, although not to be out done for bragging rights Dalby Wilbury, Gary Gooma came home slightly faster! John Cullen was not far behind for the Diesel Care Team. Luke Rowney also recorded a super fast time for his team. Our solo competitors were hitting the pace with ‘Sam Sam the time trial man’ clocking up at amazing 2 hours 19 min leg (how good is he?). The Don was hitting the straps also, getting some nasty cramps at the 60km mark.

After the bike leg there was only 20km run left to go to complete the Hell of the West. Sam was feeling the heat but made the first aid station as the baton was past onto the Dalby Wilbury member Angela Doyle. Hot on her heels was Diva Bron Green (who is in blistering form) and Don Rathmell was as keen as mustard to keep the ball rolling as was Dangerous Dave (looking dangerous). Ratsy went off like a bull at a gate for the first 8km, by the 12km mark he was struggling. With the runners on course to do extremely fast times, Sam and Don were still pounding the pavement for their individual achievements. With temperatures approx 10 degrees cooler than last year, it was a lot more comfortable for the competitors. Both Bron and Ang ran an amazing 20km, both clocking around the 1 hour 30 mins – you girls are inspiring!

Sam finished in a time of 4 hours 55 minutes, this man is awesome, and he is a credit to Team Dalby! Sam came 12th in his 25-29 age group. Well done, Mate.
The Don was helped over the line by his kids, Claudia and Hugh. This was a tale of epic proportions for Don, he has lived to tell the tale (again) of the Hell of the West. Don was able to crack 7 hours (just) in a time of 6 hours 59 minutes to finish 17th in his 45-49 age group. Congratulations Don, awesome stuff!

Well done to all who participated, especially the Dalby Diva’s Kate, Andrea and Bron who took out the prestigious 1st place in the women’s division, the Dalby Wilbury’s took out 3rd in the Masters division. Also to Chris Galinovic who was able to crack the 5 hour barrier in a time of 4 hours 57 mins to claim 3rd in her 35-39 age group.

To all the support crew, dieticians, masseurs, team physios, chiro’s, mentors and drunken hooligans – THANK YOU for getting our Team Dalby legends over the line.
